Trust and Obey

I’ve been going through some crud with an adult child and his family recently, and have been praying fervently for guidance and even divine intervention. Then, I was recently reminded that — God tells us over 300 times in the Bible to “Fear Not.”

God has a plan and no matter the outcome, he is still in control. We must trust in that!

Despite the trials and troubles of this messy life, every baptized believer, that perseveres in trusting in Jesus, and doing the will of the Father, will pass through the fires of this life purified, into their heavenly reward unscathed.

Don’t feel sorry for or fear for your kids because the world they are going to grow up in is not what it used to be.

God created them and called them for the exact moment in time that they’re in. Their life wasn’t a coincidence or an accident. As parents, we must:

— Raise them up to know the power they walk in as children of God.

— Train them up in the authority of His Word.

— Teach them to walk in faith knowing that God is in control.

— Don’t teach them to be fearful and disheartened by the state of the world but hopeful that thorough faith in the Lord, they will finish the race victorious.

Every person in all of history has been placed in the time that they were in because of God’s sovereign plan:

— He knew Daniel could handle the lions den.

— He knew David could handle Goliath. — He knew Esther could handle Haman.

— He knew Peter could handle persecution.

Don’t be scared for your children, but be honored that God chose YOU to parent in a the generation that is facing some of the biggest challenges in history. Pray that your child will rise up to the challenge, empowered with Godly wisdom.

Raise Daniels, Davids, Esthers and Peters!

God isn’t scratching His head wondering what He’s going to do with this mess of a world.

Many of the most revered saints in scripture, both men and women went through some particularly difficult situations, or did things that were horrific. King David was an adulterer and a murderer. Father Abraham passed his wife off as his sister, to save his own hide, and the Apostle Peter denied Jesus three times. In Christ there is HOPE for those who love the Lord, and are called according to His purposes.

All we can do as parents is to raise our children in the love and knowledge of the Lord, then, lean not on our own understanding, and TRUST that God has this.

I know it’s not always easy. We must realize and take to heart that it is impossible for us, finite beings to understand the mind and plan of an infinite God. But, TRUST, we must.

In closing, I’ll leave you with some lyrics to a song that came to mind while writing the above. It’s simple title says it all — Trust and Obey:

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,

What a glory He sheds on our way!

While we do His good will, He abides with us still,

And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,

But His smile quickly drives it away;

Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,

Can abide while we trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.

Or we'll walk by His side in the way.

What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;

Never fear, only trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Oh, Trust and obey, for there's no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

And 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,

Just to take Him at His Word;

Just to rest upon His promise,

Just to know, "Thus saith the Lord!"

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!

How I've proved Him o'er and o'er;

Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!

Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

Oh, for grace to trust You more!
